A huge success for this WPT Global Slam tournament with a $25,000 buy-in, attracting a whopping 311 entries, confirming the success of the Triton Jeju tournament in South Korea. This generated a prize pool of over seven million and piqued the interest of all the pros present on the island. Among them, Punnat Punsri, the new world number 1 (9th - $155,000), Bryn Kenney (10th - $130,000), and Thomas Boivin (15th - $103,500) all came close to a remarkable performance.
However, it was Alex Foxen who achieved the best result of the top players at the top of the All Time Money List with a third-place finish worth $721,600, just ahead of Emilien Pitavy, who collected the tidy sum of $584,000 for finishing just off the podium. Note that another Frenchman stood out, in this case Jimmy Guerrero, 33rd for $49,800.
We will obviously not forget the day's winner, the Filipino James Mendoza (photo), who took home the trophy and the $1,515,000 that went with it after a magnificent tournament. In heads-up play, China's Xue Song was unable to do anything, having to settle for a generous runner-up spot ($962,000).
