He tamed the crowd, dodged the traps and triumphed like a boss: Wellington Lessa Guedes asserted himself with authority at the Main Event of the Barrière Poker Tour Paris.
Wellington Lessa Guedes, a triumph in numbers and style
The Club Barrière buzzed all week with the sound of chips and emotions. As Day 1s went on, one question kept growing: who would succeed Joseph Querleux in the Paris Main Event winners’ list?
The answer came from Brazil. And it has a name: Wellington Lessa Guedes. Already victorious in Paris at the USO in November, the South American player proves he's far more than just a flash in the pan on the French circuit. He is now one of its key figures.
The €600 tournament shattered records with 709 entries, breaking the previous attendance record of the Paris stop. The result: a prize pool of €353,933 and 95 paid spots. And in the end, a fiercely competitive final table with familiar names from the circuit.
From Day 2, Lessa Guedes took the chip lead. But the road to victory was anything but smooth. At the final table, he had to overcome several momentum shifts, losing the advantage to Francky Magliocco before regaining control in a tense heads-up. Magliocco walked away with €38,720, while the ever-dangerous Omar Lakhdari completed the podium (€27,170).
Solid, strategic, and unshakable, Lessa Guedes kept a cool head at key moments. It was especially during the crucial 3-handed plays that he made the difference, setting the pace against experienced opponents.
Finalists:
1. Wellington Lessa Guedes – €59,653
2. Francky Magliocco – €38,720
3. Omar Lakhdari – €27,170
4. Christophe Fougle – €18,760
5. François Geffroy – €13,870
6. Mohammad Azrak – €10,730
7. Axel Closset – €8,620
8. Jeremie Zouari – €7,050
9. Julien Breuil – €5,870
This Main Event confirms that Paris is more than ever a major stronghold of French poker. Between the high level of play, the atmosphere at Club Barrière, and the steadily rising number of entries, the Paris stop of the BPT has become an unmissable event.
For Lessa Guedes, it’s a second major victory in six months in the capital. Proof that he will now have to be counted on in every major event.
And a clear message sent to his future opponents: the Brazilian is here to stay.
