Under the Monte-Carlo chandeliers, destiny has a rendezvous with its revenge.

Defeated last year after a six-hour heads-up battle, Boris Angelov returns stronger than ever. This time, he wants to write his own legend.

Redemption in sight for Angelov

Boris Angelov hasn’t forgotten anything. Not the pain of defeat, nor the cruel cards of that 2024 Monegasque night. But the 28-year-old Bulgarian has turned bitterness into fuel. One year after that heartbreaking final, he’s back... and leading the tournament. With 8.4 million chips in hand and a determined look, he dominates the final six of the 2025 EPT Monte-Carlo Main Event.

The road traveled since that night has been extraordinary: a final table at the WSOP Main Event (5th for $2.5 million), a title in the Mystery Bounty in Barcelona, and nearly $4 million in earnings over twelve months. And here is Angelov once again in a position of strength, in Monte Carlo, where it all began.

Angelov becomes the ninth player in history to reach back-to-back final tables in the same EPT Main Event — an even more remarkable feat in the era of massive fields. Only two other players have achieved this double in the past ten years.

But it’s not over yet. Five determined opponents still stand in his way.

Among them, Aleksandr Shevliakov, a Slovenian resident of Russian origin, is making a strong impression with 7.25 million. A regular at big events, he already has two High Roller final tables in Paris under his belt.

Mariusz Golinski (6.5 million) is also in the race: finalist at the WSOP Europe Main Event, and a familiar face at the big stages in Prague. Canadian Jamil Wakil (4.975 million), a fixture of the high roller circuit, is also looking for his breakthrough in this prestigious tournament.

The two short stacks, Enrico Coppola (4.715 million) and Khossein Kokhestani (3.86 million), are not here by accident. The former, an Italian businessman, has already shined on the EPT. The latter, a Ukrainian dentist, won the Eureka Hamburg. Underdogs, yes — but dangerous ones.

Everything started with 18 players in the legendary Salle des Étoiles. The first thunderclap came quickly: Andreas Goeller busted on the opening hand. Then came Kolonias, Franchi (the victim of a three-outer from Angelov), followed by De Martino, eliminated by a flush from Shevliakov.

The show intensified: Coppola, in Olympic form, knocked out Artem Shaganov with a set. Angelov pulled off a double strike, eliminating Kestutis Jungevicius (9th) and then Leon Zeaiter (8th), the flamboyant personality of the tournament, undone by his excesses.

Finally, the last hand of the day sealed the fate of Miguel Capriles: missed flush draw, pocket aces for Angelov. Curtain. It’s past midnight, and Boris Angelov is once again the boss of the Rock.

The finale will take place this Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Each of the six finalists is guaranteed €199,750, but they all have the same goal: the €1,000,000 promised to the winner — and the mythical trophy, the Golden Shard, symbol of the EPT.

Just a few hours remain. But destinies, they are written for eternity.
