Garcia takes the lead, Angelov seeks redemption

Day 1B of the €5,300 Main Event at EPT Monte-Carlo 2025 attracted 727 players, bringing the total number of entries to 1,129 for a prize pool of €5,504,750. After ten levels of play on this second Day 1, 259 players bagged chips for Day 2.

César Garcia stood out by dominating the day with a stack of 323,000 chips, or 215 big blinds. He is followed by Germany’s Sebastian Gaehl (288,000) and France’s Laurent Cessy (250,000).

Other notable performances include Shakhabiddin Muradov (241,000), Nicolas Oger (221,000), and Boris Angelov (210,000), who returned with determination after finishing second last year.

The French contingent is diverse, mixing seasoned professionals with ambitious amateurs, all aiming for a deep run.

Among the standouts: Frédéric Popot, Malcolm Franchi, Arnaud Enselme, and Victor Der Megreditchian, all finishing above 130,000 chips.

A bit further down but still in contention, Pierre Calamusa (78,000), Antoine Saout (78,000), Sylvain Loosli (65,000), and Patrick Bruel (36,500) remain within striking distance.

Behind them, around thirty French players are sitting between 20,000 and 100,000 chips, in a field where anything is still possible.

Julien Sitbon, one of the expected contenders, ended the day as a short stack with only 12,000 chips, but the main thing is — he made Day 2.
