There are moments when poker goes beyond the game, when a player takes control of the global stage with icy composure. In March 2025, Anatoly Filatov is that player. Number 1 in the GPI rankings, he now embodies total domination on the global circuit.
From Seoul to Las Vegas, the chips fall in his favor. The trophies keep coming. And with a granite gaze, the Russian just wrote a new chapter in his legend, claiming the GPI Player of the Month title after a thrilling final sprint.
Being first isn’t a position, it’s a battle
In a wild race where the gaps were counted in mere dozens of points, Filatov managed to stay ahead of giants like Ben Tollerene, Alex Foxen, Daniel Negreanu, and Biao Ding. Less than 100 points separated the top five, but 1,261.83 points were enough for Filatov to win.
It all came down during the Triton Super High Roller Series in Jeju (South Korea). Four key performances, including his first live win in over five years, and above all, a staggering prize of $1.88 million — the biggest check of his career.
At 36, the Moscow-based player is far from a newcomer. Already a two-time GPI Russia Player of the Year, Anatoly Filatov is climbing the ranks of poker’s pantheon with clinical consistency. $8.048 million in total live tournament winnings, a spot in the Russian all-time top 5, and now 219th in the world career rankings.
But beyond the numbers, it’s his style that impresses. His poker? Balanced, calculated, yet instinctive. A rare blend of strategic coldness and flair that only the greatest can master.
"He leaves nothing to chance. Every decision is weighed, every timing perfect," says one of his rivals met in Jeju. "We knew he was good. But now, he’s on another level."
And that level is reserved for those who aim higher than fleeting glory. Filatov isn’t just Player of the Month. He might be on his way to becoming Player of the Year — the one everyone else will have to chase down.
