Australian player James OBST au made a lasting impression by winning the prestigious PGT Mixed Games 25K 10-Game Championship, securing a prize of $462,000. This tournament, held at the PokerGO Studio, brought together the best mixed-game specialists, highlighting Obst’s exceptional talent.

 

A 10-Game Masterclass in the Land of Champions

 

 

From the start of the final table, Obst dictated the pace. He eliminated Nick Guagenti in sixth place during a Razz hand after Guagenti was left with just a single 5,000 chip in a 2-7 Triple Draw hand against Robert Wells. However, Wells failed to capitalize on this advantage, as his two pairs in Stud were beaten by Philip Sternheimer’s pocket queens. Michael Duek then eliminated Wells in fifth place with a set of eights against a missed straight draw.

The turning point of the tournament came during a 2-7 No Limit Single Draw hand. Obst and Sternheimer clashed in two consecutive hands, the first seeing Obst double up with a pat eight-six against Sternheimer’s wheel draw. Reduced to just four big bets, Sternheimer was eliminated in fourth place when his nine-seven draw failed to improve against Obst’s ten-six.

Aaron Sacks, who had dominated much of Day Two, lost his chip lead to Obst during a No Limit Hold’em hand where Obst rivered a straight against Sacks’ top pair. Michael Duek, third in chips, gradually lost his stack to Obst and Sacks. His final hand came in No Limit Hold’em when his king-seven failed to hold against Obst’s straight, eliminating him in third place.

The heads-up battle between Obst and Sacks was intense. Sacks managed to narrow the gap with a series of hands in Limit Hold’em, but a crucial Razz hand left him with a short stack. Despite doubling up twice, Sacks was finally eliminated in Badugi, as his nine-five-three draw couldn’t overcome Obst’s six-five-two-ace. Sacks finished in second place, earning $294,000.
